Memories of a Former Home
Dog Diaries: Entry # 13, Starting Life Over in Downtown Orlando
September 19, 2006
Fellow Dog Lovers,
Over a year has passed since Ashley and Abel entered stories of their adventures into their special Pettales (Dog Diaries) blog. Briefly, several events caused them to lose access to their special diary web site: 1. moving to a much smaller home in downtown Orlando, 2. coping with a much smaller yard, 3. having to spend most of each day confined to loyal owner's bedroom due to new resident, 4. getting acclimated to loyal owner's 93-year-old parent, 5. being forced to have meals served in a kitchen the size of most people's walk-in closets. That being said, they have agreed to stir themselves from their constant napping to make their first entry in over a year. Read on.
Dear Diary,
Believe us, you do not want to be moved from three acres to one quarter acre, and be expected to behave in the same grand manner. Loyal owner suddenly packed up everything we hold dear, and we were forced to squeeze ourselves into a home the size of someone's living room.
It has affected every aspect of our lives. Ashley, former lady greyhound racer, has been deprived of eating her favorite gopher turtles, oppossums, and stray cats. For myself, I have suffered from lack of exercise due to the tiny yard I am forced to pretend to enjoy. Both of us have exerted our displeasure by using the backyard for strictly bodily functions, and we have reserved the front yard as our barking and growling and running area.
Loyal owner made sure we had only the best picket fence to keep us safe from the lower-class dogs who take their owners for walks each day. However, often we have to display our fighting spirit by pretending to attempt to leap over the fence to tear the intruders to bits. This usually scares the heck out of dogs and owners, and the "Beware of Dog" signs add a bit of drama.
Can't write much today as I am barely able to stay awake to share this bit of information with my special readers out there.
Please keep in touch by sending us messages; we need communication with the outside world now.
Seriously enclosed by too many pickets,
Abel, former shelter dog, and Ashley, former lady greyhound racer

Dear Abby,
It's good to know that your supervisory role is permanent. Loyal owners have to be put in their correct places in the home, don't you think?
Love,
Ashley and Abel
